How many pets have you owned in your lifetime? Tell us about them.

I recall two pets in my lifetime.
My first pet was a goldfish; we got him/her when I was about 8 or 9. Being obsessed with The Little Mermaid at the time (oh, who am I kidding... I'm still a fan), I named the fish Flounder. My diary entries from the era were all about what Flounder did that day, and what time I fed him, and how my little brother was so jealous becuase his goldfish wasn't as cool as Flounder.
And then, the summer between my freshman and sophomore years in high school... we got a puppy. My brother had been begging my parents for a dog for as long as I can remember, and they finally gave in. Okay, my dad gave in. My mom is not a pet person (she has touched the dog exactly ONCE since we got him), and I was afraid of dogs (although I claimed "allergies" were why I didnt want a dog). Anyway, my brother wanted a german shepherd/labrador mix, and they found a newspaper ad for puppies of that exact mix. So my brother and dad picked up a puppy. And we had decided we wanted to name the dog Duke, since I was obsessed with Duke basketball (that was obviously before I got accepted at a college w/ its own basketball legacy), and my brother just thought it was a cool name. And when they went to take him home, the owner said "bye Duke." And my brother was like "hey! that's what we were gonna name him!" So the dog's been Duke since the day he was born.
He was such a cute puppy. He has those pointy German Shepherd ears, but when he was a puppy, they didn't stick up, and just kinda flopped down. And then as he got older, ONE of his ears stuck up, and he looked really funny! Eventually, he grew (he's 100 pounds now!) and his ears got normal. He used to be all hyper and used to jump all over me and destroy our backyard, but now that he's 10 years old, he basically just sleeps. Other than sleeping, his current hobbies include: (1) barking at the mailman and people that park their car in front of our house to "take in the view"; (2) digging; (3) eating.
He totally knows I'm a softie and won't punish or discipline him, so he basically walks all over me. But he did let me give him a bath the other day! He was so well-behaved! I love my doggie. I'll post a pic if he sits still long enough for me to take one!
